Human induced disasters, like what you see in war zones, can be really difficult to survive if you aren’t prepared for them. But, if you’re looking at the big picture of what’s going on, you want to be sure that you do the best you can to stay ahead of things. Here are some of the things that you want to do and remember if a man-made emergency comes up.

1. Bring Your Emergency Kit With You

Whether you put your emergency kit in your favorite bags or you’re looking to put it in something larger or sturdier, you will find that there are a lot of different ways that you can choose to make this. Be sure that you have a variety of options, important paperwork, a change of clothing, and some food so that you can make it to your safe place.

2. Have Somewhere Safe to Go

Where will you go? In some instances, you can get a safehouse together in your basement or a fallout shelter ahead of time. In other cases, you’re better off just getting out of town and going to a more remote area to bunker down. No matter what, you want to be sure that you’re able to be as safe as you can for the long term.

3. Have a Backup Plan

What happens if your car breaks down or you just have no way to get to your “safe space? This is where a backup plan can go a really long way. Do you know of other people that have safehouses? Maybe you know of a cabin that is likely to be abandoned, or that is owned by kind people that aren’t going to kick you out? Having a backup plan prevents you from becoming a sitting duck after a disaster.

4. Try to Keep Communication Open

Communication can be hard, so try to keep any type of communication open that is still working. Whether that means cell phones, home phones, or internet, you want to be sure to keep things open. It’s a good idea to have some sort of short-wave radio or CB system in your emergency kit or bunker, just in case.

5. Remember Where You Put Your Spare Inventory

If you’re someone who has been prepping for this moment, then you want to be sure that you remember exactly where you put your extra stuff. You want to be sure that it’s going to be simple to access and that you have plenty of ways to use those items as you hold out for next steps.

Look at the options you have and start making sure that you’re ready to move forward. You can plan a lot of different things and make sure that you’re going to be ready to go for the long haul. See what’s going to be next, work out details, and know that you have a way forward in case a disaster comes along.
